a journey of a starless night

serene. tranquil. peaceful.

i had a dental appointment this morning
went to 2 lectures before going to the clinic
waited for few minutes for the specialist

sat on the chair and readied to be examined
i am a very cooperative patient. maybe because i've been seeing dentists since i was 5
i thought the specialist just want to check my gum condition
didn't expect for him to do the crown lengthening this morning
haha

Crown lengthening is done using local anesthesia. How long it takes will depend on the number of teeth that need treatment. Even if only one tooth is involved, crown lengthening typically includes neighboring teeth, too. That allows the tissues to be reshaped gradually. If both bone and soft tissue are removed, the procedure will take longer than if only soft tissue is removed.

The periodontist will make cuts that will pull the gums away from the teeth. This will expose the roots of the teeth and the surrounding bone. In some cases, simply removing a little gum tissue will expose enough tooth for your dentist to place a crown or filling. However, in most cases, the periodontist will need to remove some bone from around the roots of the teeth. Once the periodontist has exposed enough tooth, the surgical area will be washed with sterile salt water and the gums will be stitched together. Some dentists put a bandage over the stitches.

Crown lengthening is a surgical procedure performed by a dentist to expose a greater height of tooth structure in order to properly restore the tooth prosthetically.[1] This is done by incising the gingival tissue around a tooth and, after temporarily displacing the soft tissue, predictably removing a given height of alveolar bone from the circumference of the tooth or teeth being operated on.

in my case, only 2mm of gum was removed
i didn't realize i have pocket of 4mm before this. maybe because my gum is healthy and i had orthodontic treatment before

the procedure took roughly 1 hour to be done. no complications i hope after the procedure

i was discharged after that and given another appointment

why did i have to do the crown lengthening?
because the gum of my front teeth is not leveled since i have missing 11
before proceeding to put veneer on it, i have to undergo this procedure first

mmm...
i think i have experienced most of the dental procedures
let's see..
1) extraction
2) fillings
3) scaling
4) minor oral surgery
5) orthodontic surgery
6) orthodontic treatment (braces, retainer, headgear)
7) oral surgery (to remove underdeveloped 11 when i was 11)
8) bone grafting (even the specialist was shocked when i told him this)
9) crown lengthening

next,
veneer
and bleaching maybe
:)

now, i can tell my patients about the procedures (in detail??~~) because i've experienced it
*smiles*
